'The Weekend House: A Farmhouse Style Cottage Designed by Dibello Architects The New Home Vision The clients owned an existing small home on the lot and would visit on weekends. They wanted a new, charming house that fit the scale and character of the neighborhood but also had ample space for entertaining. They desired a new home that could comfortably accommodate overnight guests. The Home Design Challenge The clients were intrigued by a small cottage that Dale Dibello designed several years ago which fit on a 25’ wide lot. Because their current lot was narrow within an existing neighborhood, they enlisted our help in requesting a variance from the city for a larger footprint than the building-line setbacks would allow. The Style of Architecture The clients wanted a modern farmhouse style, mainly inspired by the Southern Living “Sugarberry Cottage.” They also liked the design aesthetic of Chip and Joanna Gaines. They desired a small front porch at the entry of the home, a painted wood exterior, and metal roof. About Dibello Architects As a custom home designer & residential architect practicing in the Texas Hill Country, Principal Architect Dale Dibello believes that context is key in the design of new buildings. He follows a regional approach influenced by the diverse cultures that have shaped the Texas Hill Country and the Austin/San Antonio corridor. The rugged beauty and complexity of the land as well as the history of the place all inspire our custom home designs. Dibello Architects, PLLC is known for its vernacular, traditional, and classically influenced homes in town, on ranches, and by lakes and rivers in the Texas Hill Country.
