'Owning a home is incredibly expensive, and the cost puts us deeply in debt for much of our adult lifetime. A homestead in a box is one example of how we could own a home, carry far less debt, and live far more cheaply than most people are now. We could live in an eco friendly house off grid, and live a sustainable lifestyle with far more space and comfort than in a tiny house. This video is a continuation to the video I did recently on debt. In this video I will discuss a project that I have thought about doing for a long time called homestead in a box. There are two main issues with regards to the way western society is set up, land access and debt. Because we live in a cold climate our housing needs are far more complex than in the tropics. This makes house construction more expensive which leads to the need for land ownership or long term leases. One way around this is to build a home that is moveable and suitable to the north. The homestead in a box features a container home, yurts and a passive solar greenhouse. All of these components would be designed to easily taken down, packed up and shipped to site which gives options to the owner with regards to land access. Agricultural land in North America can be as inexpensive as $50/acre/year which means if you can invest in infrastructure like a homestead in a box that facilitates comfortable living, your land costs can be very low. portable homes system allows the owner to move as required should the lease come due or if their situation changes.
