'Every two years, the U.S. Department of Energy sponsors an international competition to design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. College and university teams from around the world transport their competition houses to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to assemble a solar village and participate in the ten-part contest. This film chronicles the 2005 Solar Decathlon with updates from the 2007 competition. It tells the story of the talented student teams, highlights their innovative technology, and suggests strategies for a sustainable future. Running time: approximately 50 minutes. For all ages.
