'(2 May 2017) TALKING MET GALA FASHION WITH CHOPRA, KALING, HILFIGER, DIDDY Priyanka Chopra\'s says her Met Gala trench coat dress wasn\'t as difficult to wear as it looked. \"My outfit thankfully is super comfortable like that. Once I\'m done with the carpet, I lose the train and it\'s even better,\" the Indian actress said Monday (1 May) at the New York event. Chopra\'s floor-sweeping trench coat evening gown in camel from Ralph Lauren took up a lot of real estate on the carpet, which was actually blue this year. \"I really wanted it to be a true homage to Comme des Garcons, and taking something which is so classic and classic, known by Ralph Lauren, and deconstructing it a little bit to make it sort of androgynous – I think that was the idea.\" Music mogul Diddy, meanwhile, laid down on the carpet to watch girlfriend Cassie pose for photographers. He wore an embellished cape in a spider web design that carried over to his Rick Owens tuxedo. \"I mean you have to get excited – fashion\'s best coming out for a night for one night of fun,\" Diddy said. \"One of the most grueling industries to work in his fashion, because you have to work every day. The trends change every day. So this is a night for us to let loose and kind of celebrate our creativity.\" Cassie said her On Aura Tout Vu black gown with a huge, spikey train was difficult to move in. \"It\'s a step in and out. But it\'s quite heavy. It\'s heavy. I\'m having a good time trying to drag it around. It weighs a little bit more than me,\" she said. The annual event feeds the Metropolitan Museum of Art\'s Costume Institute budget. This year\'s show features the avant-garde work of Rei Kawakubo (Ray KAH-wa-koo-BOH) who founded Comme des Garcons. Mindy Kaling was among the stars reveling in the glitz. \"Well this one, especially being from LA, it always feels extra glamorous to come out to New York,\" she said. \"And fashion is so impenetrable when you come from television – especially – I\'m a comedy writer. So for me, ascending these stairs at one of the most significant cultural institutions in the entire world is -- I mean – just nothing I could\'ve dreamed of as a kid.\" NFL star Cam Newton said he was hoping to find \"inspiration\" for his future fashion choices at the event. \"The similarities probably are the Super Bowl of fashion, but to get all of the attention, to see the beautiful people that\'s, and me being a fan of fashion, man, I\'m just trying to show support and also gain inspiration as well,\" he said.
